The New Moon arrived on Monday at 9:55p (EDT) in the sign of Virgo. I am, as you might already be aware, late in posting. I was out of town working on a project, and, well, it slipped my mind. C’est la vie, oui?
The Sabian Symbol for this lunation is A Bride With Her Veil Snatched Away.
Traditionally, in patriarchal societies, women would enter into marriage with very little understanding of the contract to which they were agreeing. They were fed fairy tale notions of being saved and supported by a man. And how could that not seem reasonable since they had been kept safe and supported by their fathers prior? They were rarely given any information about what to expect in the way of conjugal duties. Mostly it was decided that their obligation was to provide pleasure for their husbands and male heirs to secure the family wealth. (Heaven forfend she have any expectation of her husband tending to her pleasure.) In some cultures, she may not even have met her betrothed until the wedding. Talk about being veiled! There was a great deal of uncertainty and often trepidation involved in marriage unions.
This New Moon brings opportunities for seeing things more clearly; for gaining insight into current circumstances. This can lead to making more practically beneficial choices. Or, at the very least, provide for better bracing when a turbulent experience approaches.
This lunation may leave you confused about where you are heading, thanks to a challenging aspect with the North Node, but this is temporary. Our symbolic bride may not know where she’s going as she leaves her childhood home, but once the ceremony is over, it’s certain she’ll go somewhere. And with Neptune chaperoning the North Node, she can trust that she’ll have some spiritual support on the way.
With Mercury squaring Uranus, be encouraged to pay attention to your communiques now. You may find some surprising insights that are ready to be considered and integrated.
Venus with the South Node says it’s okay to take pleasure in old comfortable habits. But Lilith in the mix warns of the possibility for censorship (especially relevant for feminine ‘wiles’ surfacing among patriarchal systems).
This also can be felt a little more intensely as Pluto has retrograded back into Capricorn. Patriarchy is given one last push to sound its barbaric YAWP. Old sexual politics are likely to emerge on a personal or global stage.
With Mars squaring Neptune (and having just moved into Cancer yesterday), you would do well to defer to your feelings before taking actions. Of course, the challenge lies in not acting too rashly from the feeling space. This is a time for acting rather than reacting. But it’s important to let your feels guide you more than moving from what seems logically advised.
The unveiled bride can either enter into her new life/identity as the heroine of her story, or as the supporting character next to her partner. There’s no shame in either choice, but better it be a conscious decision motivated by what feels right for her than to be forced into a role that doesn’t fit because she thinks it’s what’s expected of her.
This Virgo New Moon is your moment to get clarity on your situation; to check in with how you feel about things; and to move forward from that knowledge, making choices that feel good. You might not see the full picture of where you’re headed, but that part’s not important right now. Once you sort out your current picture, you’ll likely find the bigger picture coming into view. And remember: The choices you make today will be the pigments painting that bigger picture of tomorrow, so choose wisely.
