HOLISTIC SKINCARE HIGHLIGHT: DR. ALKAITIS ORGANIC SOOTHING GEL

We are deep into the Summer season, friends. Is your skin reflecting that healthy Summer glow?

Holistic Skincare

For many, Summer brings its own unique set of skin challenges. Sunburn! Rosacea! Breakouts! Sweat burn! Blisters! And more.

It’s no fun having to worry about these unsightly and uncomfortable issues. And in Summer, it’s too hot to just hide our skin under hats, scarves and other heavy clothing. So, what is there to do?

Well, first, let’s begin by having a quick discussion of the skin and how it functions. As most people know by now, skin is the largest organ of our human bodies. It provides a container for pretty much the entire body. As such, one of its primary functions is protection. It protects our more vulnerable soft tissues, viscera, bones and such from harsh environmental influence by creating a barrier between the inside and the outside.

Skin also provides our bodies with thermoregulation. That simply means it helps us to keep our body’s temperature at a safe and comfortable threshold. It does this through various methods including directing the position of body hair to increase or decrease insulation, dilating or constricting blood vessels in the dermis, and, of course, sweating.

Detoxification and purification also fall under the purview of the skin. One of the fastest and most efficient ways to clear toxins and other unnecessary foreign objects from the body is to expel them via the skin. This is what is happening when we get rashes, pimples, bumps, bites and so forth.

When the body is in an optimal state of health, these functions will operate smoothly and efficiently and the appearance of the skin will reflect that with a smooth and even appearance. However, if there is dysfunction within the body, it’s not only expressed as a hindrance to our internal functioning, but it can also show up as blemishes on the skin.

As mentioned above, one of skin’s primary roles is detoxification. Since skin is a permeable membrane it is very efficient at pushing toxic media out of the body directly through that membrane rather than trying to process it through some of the more complex systems of elimination. So, any time we experience blemishes on our skin, we are seeing our body hard at work clearing us out of potentially harmful interlopers. We should encourage this process!

In the current cultural approach to skincare, more emphasis is given on removing the symptoms of healing than addressing the source of dysfunction. However, truly healthy, happy skin is achieved by creating an optimal state of health within the body. This is the holistic approach to health—It’s about addressing the system as a whole entity rather than simply treating symptoms in an effort to get them to “go away” quickly.

I realize that completely overhauling one’s diet and lifestyle is not always easy; it’s rarely fast, and it’s often not even desired by many. So, what, then, can you do to support your skin where it is? Find products that operate within that holistic model; products that treat your skin as one part of a whole body system, and that don’t add any synthetic chemicals or fillers for the system to have to deal with before it can utilize the good stuff being offered.

One of my favorite holistic skincare treatments is Dr. Alkaitis’ Organic Soothing Gel. All Dr. Alkaitis skincare products are made from 100% ‘edible, certified organic, biodynamic, and ethically wild-crafted ingredients of the highest quality from around the world’.1  This is raw holistic adaptogenic skin food, and it actually works like a dream.

The Organic Soothing Gel is kind of a miracle product. (And I don’t use those words lightly. In fact, I’m not easily swayed by the beauty industry’s marketing language.) But the proof is in the pudding, so to speak. This product has been effective for me, and for everyone I’ve shared it with, from friends and family to clients.

Holistic Skincare: Dr. Alkaitis

This gel can be used in so many ways. It’s a great treatment for acneic skin, and can be effectively used on the mildest of breakouts to the most inflamed cystic acne conditions. It’s a brilliant balm for rosacea, sunburn and other inflammation dysfunctions. I use it in my first aid kit, too, as it’s fantastic on cuts, scrapes, bug bites and the like. I even used it on my nose when I was nursing a sinus infection and constantly blowing my nose to the point of rawness. It’s so very versatile.

In Summer, use to tame sunburn and razor rash. In Winter, use it as a balm for chapped skin and eczema flares.

I use it almost daily as a serum after my toner and before my moisturizer. As a holistic adaptogenic product, it will help to soothe any issue my skin might be presenting at the moment, so I know it’s going to always be working for me.

I highly recommend this product to practically everyone I meet, and I use it in sessions with my clients to impressive results.
