This week I’ve been posting some about the importance of listening to Soul. Today I’m going to expand on that topic a bit. Today, I’m going to share a bit about why making excuses is just a front for the slow and painful murdering of our own happiness.
You know … a little light reading for you. :)
Let’s face it: We all make excuses. Some of us more than others, but none of us - to my experience - are exempt.
It’s funny … just a few short months ago, I would have argued that on some occasions making excuses can be helpful. But not so now. Now I am convinced that making excuses only delays our bliss, and prolongs our suffering.
Think about it: When do we make excuses? We make excuses to justify why we did or didn’t do/say/become something that we wanted to do/say/become. We make excuses because it doesn’t feel good to act in opposition of our authentic needs and desires.
Now, it’s one thing to move in the direction of our desires only to find that we were wrong in understanding the wanting. This kind of changing course is born from the expansion of getting more clarity about what we truly want via getting what we thought we wanted. (Did you follow that?) When we get something we thought we wanted, then find out it’s not all that great, we can course-correct, and shift directions. No harm, no foul. This kind of ‘failure’, though, doesn’t really require an excuse. To stop working toward something you no longer want is to take aligned action, so it feels good, and, therefore warrants no justification.
But when we feel a longing for one thing, but instead do something else out of a sense of obligation, or fear, or victimhood, then we need excuses to make ourselves feel better about those choices. Because … those choices don’t feel good.
Acting against our Soul’s truth - in opposition to what feels really exciting and joyful - is, in essence, killing off our ability to experience happiness and fulfillment.
Why, I ask you, is it so easy for so many of us to tolerate this violence? We rail against so many other forms of violence in the world, yet we turn a blind eye, and even commit these sins, ourselves, against our own Souls.
What will it take for you to end this violence? What will it take for you to finally step up, speak out, and claim your blissful birthright? What will it take for you to actually listen to your Soul, and to act on what you truly and joyfully want? What could possibly be more important than that?
I ask these questions of you, but also of myself. I am not immune to the conditioning of this modern paradigm. I sometimes forget that my only earthly responsibility is to live my life in alignment with my Soul’s needs and desires. I sometimes buy into the propaganda that putting my needs first is a negative thing. When, in truth, I know this to be the very best gift I can give to my loved ones and to the world, at large.
Let us all lead by example and start doing, saying, and becoming whatever it is that feels wonderful to us. As you do this, you inspire those around you to do the same. As I do this, I inspire others to do the same. As more and more of us start living from a place of blissful alignment with Soul, the world will become a happier and healthier place.
So, what do you say? Are you with me? Are you ready to thrive?
If so, start right now! Do something just for the fun of it! Speak your truth no matter who tries to silence you. Become what you’ve always dreamed of becoming!
If this is all sounding good to you, but you don’t quite know where to begin or how to get started, I invite you to take a look at my Becoming Blissmakers Transformational Group Coaching Program. This is the kind of work we do there. It’s a small group of supportive people coming together to get clear on what they want, why they want it, and how they can make it all happen. It’s an amazing experience. You can learn more by messaging me, and/or clicking HERE.
