Aries marks the beginning of the astrological year. And the new moon in Aries marks the energetic beginning of the beginning of the year. The moon returned to the darkness, and has begun her re-illumination. And, once again, we are called to begin again; focus on new beginnings; set out on new paths.
April’s New Moon is in Aries, along with the Sun. And joining these two luminaries in the planet of action and assertion is Mercury, who has just re-directed from His retrograde jaunt. This is pretty potent magick for making things happen.
Aries is about immediacy. He is impetuous and aggressive and knows how to get what He wants. He cuts through any ballast that tries to slow His progress with ease and vigor. The New Moon in Aries is allowing our emotional inner selves to take on that ‘can-do’ attitude, giving us the self-confidence to forge ahead into the versions of ourselves that we have been dreaming about and/or planning for (consciously or not) for the past year.
It’s time to stop thinking so much, and start doing. And this is a New Moon phase in which fortune favors the brave. So, take a leap of faith into whatever foray excites you. Go ahead! The stars will be there to back you up.

General Overview:
King of Swords in Position 1 reinforces the idea that it is time to take some strategic action. It also echoes the notion that this action doesn’t necessarily have to be taken with all pistons firing, for whatever expenditure we make toward our goals will be matched by the cosmic energy of New Moon, Sun, and Mercury (direct) in Aries. This is a time to imbue the proverbial sword with the power of all that thinking and planning we’ve been doing this past year, in order to start making manifest our plans, dreams, and intentions. We can do so with absolute confidence at this time. We’ve done the work necessary to ensure our actions are successful.
Ace of Wands (Position 2) gives us clues as to how to nourish these seeds of action. In fact, the Aces are all considered to be seeds, themselves, holding the absolute and as-yet-unrealized potential of the corresponding suit. Wands being the suit of passion, will, and motivation lets us know how to care for this seed and bring it to fruition. We must tap into the motivating forces that are compelling us to the action at hand. During moments of fatigue, temptation, or distraction, it is the reconnection with these motivating forces that will urge us to continue moving forward, that will inspire us to achieve whatever goals we are setting for ourselves.
Internally, we are being encouraged by 6 Pentacles (Position 3) to take this time to invest in activities and practices that help us find balance within ourselves.
Externally, we are called to muster Strength (Position 4), whether that be physical, mental, emotional, psychic, or otherwise. In all likelihood it will be a blend of these, unique to each of us in relation to the work we are undertaking. Without question, a sense of fearlessness will be of benefit as we forge ahead on our paths.
According to 7 Wands in Position 5, if we are able to complete this task that is set before us, and truly nurture these seeds of action that we are planting beneath this Aries new moon, we can expect to manifest a renewed sense of vigor, power, and momentum toward our goals.
